Engaging SMU students overseas

Jakarta

Growth in ASIA is one of the 3 areas of priorities for SMU vision 2025. Every student at SMU will have to gain a global exposure experience before they can graduate. Overseas internship is one of the rare activities students at SMU can embark on to gain very in-depth first hand industry experience and network beyond the shore of Singapore.

For the undergraduate programme, we have the ASEAN Internship Programme (AIP), which focus on internship within ASEAN. Recently, Indonesia and Singapore signed an agreement to have 300 student exchange under the Youth Mobility Programme (YMP). MOE also appointed SMU to take the lead for initiatives in ASEAN.

Beyond ASEAN, SMU also focus on China and India. In 2019, MOE also signed an agreement with China under the Youth Interns Exchange Scheme (YES), which allows 500 students to have an internship experience for up to 6 months per year. SMU looks forward to partner any organisation in China who wish to engage our students in China under this scheme.

Although SMU focused on ASEAN, China and India (ACI), we do not restrict students who wish to intern outside ACI, unless the geography is rated high risk in nature under the ISOS guidelines.

If any organisation who wish to engage SMU students outside of Singapore please connect with us at overseasdesk@smu.edu.sg.
